Welcome to Men in Sheds
Lancing and Sompting

Practical Skills, Social Connection & Community Wellbeing

At Lancing & Sompting Men in Sheds, we offer far more than tools and timber—we provide a welcoming sanctuary for men facing retirement, bereavement, or isolation. Free from pressure, our workshop builds community and purpose through side-by-side companionship. Whether you are crafting a personal project, helping with a community build, or just sharing a cuppa and a chat, our Shed helps men rediscover confidence, connection, and belonging

Health, Wellbeing & Community

Active community involvement is powerful preventive healthcare. Engaging in meaningful activity delivers mental health benefits no prescription can buy. We regularly see reserved new members flourish into active participants filled with pride and vitality. Our Shed proves that hands-on purpose, genuine friendship, and shared laughter are essential for lifelong wellbeing.

Come Say Hello

Pop in during our open session hours for a gentle tour and a cuppa! We’ll chat about what you hope to get out of the Shed, and you’re welcome to attend a few sessions first to meet the group and settle in at your own pace. Every visitor receives a warm, friendly welcome with zero pressure to commit.

Frank King, Shed Manager & Trustee writes

"To most people, our site might look like just a shed—but to us, it is a sanctuary. Over the years, I’ve seen men walk through our doors quiet, withdrawn, and feeling a bit lost, only to watch them bloom within weeks into active, joyous members filled with banter and renewed self-worth. Gaining a genuine sense of purpose by helping others—whether we’re building equipment for local nurseries, running free crafting workshops for school kids, responding to personal calls for help from residents, or restoring local memorial benches—is better than any medication that can be bought or prescribed. Our Shed may just be a shed to most, but to us, it is a place where our shedders find purpose, joy, and pride by helping others—and in turn, helping themselves."
