Our Garden

Building Our First Deep Bed

Our garden journey began with a deep bed constructed right along the historic flint wall outside The Barn. While all our Shedders pitched in to help build the structure, Keith D and Jock were caught on camera during the build!

Once constructed, we were joined by local community members who helped plant up the beds to give our new home its very first splash of green.

A Landscape Design by John & Frank

We gained a huge advantage when Shedder John joined us. Drawing on his background as a former landscape gardener, he brought fantastic ideas and plans to the table.

Working closely with Shed Manager Frank, John designed a garden along the front of our buildings. The design seamlessly combines planting beds, handcrafted timber sculptures, and creative artworks.

Plants & Donors: Our wonderful plants were largely donated by the Lancing and Sompting Lions alongside generous local supporters.

Structures & Soil: Essential hardware for the garden beds and ground mediums were secured through grant funding and donations

Laughter, Teas & A Helping Hand

On clear days, our tea breaks are taken outside in the garden, surrounded by the hum of bees, fluttering butterflies, and plenty of chat and laughter.

We simply had to feature this epic photo of John W, whose infectious smile sums up the entire spirit of our garden! John did so much more than just lend a hand—he worked tirelessly building, planting, and tenderly looking after the garden and plants. That pink flamingo watering can in his hand is a true token of our heartfelt gratitude for everything he did!
